SAME-DAY DENTAL CROWNS SAVE YOU VALUABLE TIME

Given a choice, wouldn’t you prefer to get your tooth restoration done in one visit to the dentist, instead of two? Two visits require you to interrupt your schedule twice, and make you do twice the driving to the dentist’s office. That’s the way it was done in the past when you needed a dental crown to repair a tooth. But at Simply Smiles - Comprehensive Dentistry & Facial Esthetics, we can restore your tooth in one day thanks to our CEREC in-office milling system. CEREC is an acronym for Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics. CEREC allows us to create your new crown right in our office the same day we take your tooth impressions.

WHY YOU MAY NEED A DENTAL CROWN

When you have a damaged tooth or one that’s badly decayed, a normal filling isn’t strong enough to safely restore the tooth—too much of your tooth is missing, weakening the overall structure. In this case you need a dental crown to make the repair. This crown sits over your tooth like a cap and strengthens it.

When you have a root canal procedure done, you get a crown for the same reason—the tooth needs to be strengthened. The tooth can become brittle after a root canal because it’s no longer a living tooth. This can cause the tooth to fracture when you bite or chew if it isn’t strengthened with a crown.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE FOR MY SAME-DAY CROWN TO BE READY?

With CEREC same-day crowns your crown can be ready in about 15 minutes. The entire process of receiving a crown can be completed in about two hours.

By contrast, it takes about two weeks for a crown restoration using conventional methods.

WHAT IS THE PROCEDURE FOR GETTING A TRADITIONAL CROWN?

The dentist prepares your tooth for the crown by carefully shaping your tooth so the new crown will sit securely on it. He does this by grinding the tooth to a smaller shape to make room for a crown. Then he takes impressions of your teeth using a dental putty. This creates a mold which the lab uses to make a model of your teeth. A temporary crown is placed on your tooth to protect it while the lab makes your crown. When your crown arrives one to two weeks later, you get called in for a second visit so the crown can be placed and any adjustments made to ensure it fits properly. This method works and has been used for many years.

But today there is a better way to produce your new crown which is much more convenient for you and has advantages over the conventional method.

How CEREC Technology Works

CEREC same-day crowns at Simply Smiles in Ashburn, VA, use advanced CAD/CAM technology to provide patients with durable, natural-looking crowns in just one visit. Here’s how the process works:

  • Digital Scan

Dr. Sabharwal begins by taking a digital scan of your tooth, eliminating the need for traditional impressions. This digital impression ensures precision and comfort, allowing us to capture highly detailed images of your teeth.

  • 3D Design

Using advanced software, Dr. Sabharwal designs your crown in 3D, ensuring a perfect fit that mimics the natural contours of your tooth. The design is customized to suit your specific dental needs.

  • On-Site Milling

The design is then sent to an in-office milling unit, where the crown is created from a block of ceramic or zirconia. The milling process takes about 20 minutes, ensuring a fast and efficient turnaround.

  • Placement

Once the crown is milled, Dr. Sabharwal ensures it fits perfectly. The crown is then bonded to your tooth, restoring both function and aesthetics in a single appointment.

With CEREC technology, Simply Smiles in Ashburn, VA, provides a quick, accurate, and comfortable crown solution, all without the need for multiple visits.

Are Same-Day Crowns as Durable as Traditional Crowns?

Yes, CEREC crowns offer comparable, if not superior, durability to traditional crowns. The ceramic and zirconia materials used in CEREC crowns are highly resistant to wear and staining, making them a long-lasting option.

Comparison with Traditional Crowns:

  • Material Strength

Traditional crowns are often made from porcelain, metal, or a combination of both, while CEREC crowns are crafted from high-quality ceramic or zirconia, both of which are known for their exceptional strength and longevity.

  • Tooth Structure Preservation

CEREC crowns are designed to preserve more of your natural tooth structure than traditional crowns, which may require more tooth reduction during the preparation process. This means less of your natural tooth is removed, improving the overall strength and health of the tooth.

  • No Need for Temporary Crowns

With CEREC same-day crowns, there’s no need for a temporary crown while your permanent one is being made, unlike traditional crowns that require multiple appointments. This means fewer appointments and a quicker recovery time for patients in Ashburn, VA.

At Simply Smiles, Dr. Sabharwal ensures that CEREC crowns not only restore your smile but also provide long-term durability and strength, all in one visit.

The time-consuming parts of getting a crown are the initial preparation of the tooth and then waiting for the crown to be made at the lab. Wouldn’t it be great if you could have your new crown about 15 minutes after Dr. Sabharwal finished taking the impressions? That’s exactly the service you get when you come to Simply Smiles - Comprehensive Dentistry & Facial Esthetics. Your tooth is prepared using our normal procedures for making a tooth ready to receive a crown. Then Dr. Sabharwal takes 3D digital images of your mouth and teeth so he can create a 3D model of your crown using special software. This model is used by the CEREC milling machine to create your new crown on-site in about 15 minutes. Your crown is set in place and Dr. Sabharwal makes any necessary adjustments so it fits perfectly. The entire procedure usually takes about two hours and then you have your new permanent crown, not a temporary one.

ADVANTAGES OF CEREC SAME-DAY CROWNS

The biggest advantage of same-day crowns milled in our office is that they are same-day crowns. Both lab-created crowns and CEREC-milled crowns are durable and will give you years of service. Each type of crown is color-matched to your existing teeth so they look natural when you smile. With traditional crowns, two visits are required one-to-two weeks apart. With CEREC same-day crowns, you can get a new, permanent crown in just two hours. There is no need to squeeze two appointments into your busy schedule.

Another benefit of a CEREC crown is that the impression for your crown is done using 3D images taken with an intraoral (for the interior of the mouth) camera. Dr. Sabharwal uses special CAD/CAM software to design a 3D model of your crown from these images. This gives a very precise model of the shape of your crown so the CEREC machine can mill it perfectly. Lab-created crowns depend on the accuracy of impressions taken using a special dental putty. This procedure can be less precise than the 3D scanning and computer modeling done with CEREC.

Do you need a quick smile makeover because a special event is about to happen, but you don’t have two weeks to wait for veneers? CEREC can often shorten the time needed for a smile makeover. Custom veneers can be created with CEREC, allowing you to get your new veneers in one day instead of two weeks, depending on how many veneers you need.
