CEREC® SAME-DAY RESTORATIONS ASHBURN
In the past, restoring a decayed or damaged tooth with a crown required at least two appointments. During the first visit, the tooth would be prepared, and a temporary crown would be placed over it. Then, during a second visit weeks or months later, this temporary would be replaced with the patient’s permanent restoration.
HOW DOES CEREC WORK?
With today’s technology, the process can be cut in half. Instead of requiring two appointments, a custom-made crown restoration from Ashburn dentist Dr. Aman Sabharwal can be completed in a single visit. The tool making this possible is known as CEREC (Chairside Economical Restoration of Esthetic Ceramics). Using our CEREC unit, we design, mill, and place a customized crown over the course of just one appointment.
The CEREC Process
We start by preparing your tooth as we would for a traditional crown restoration. For a dental crown, Ashburn dentist Dr. Sabharwal gently files down the side and top surfaces of your tooth. This must be done to ensure that your new CEREC same-day crown fits over your tooth.
Once the tooth is prepared, we’ll take digital impressions of the tooth to be restored, as well as impressions of your full smile. These images are created with CEREC’s digital infrared camera. Then, the CEREC computer software designs your new crown. Every detail of the crown is included in this one design: the color of the crown, the shape of the crown and the exact location and height of cusps.
This design is then wirelessly transferred to the milling unit in our office. In about 15 to 20 minutes, this unit creates a restoration based on these digital impressions and detailed designs.
Once your crown is ready, Dr. Sabharwal will double-check the design and test the fit on you tooth. If any minor adjustments are necessary, he can take of them right then and there.
To complete the CEREC procedure, we use dental cement to permanently bond the restoration into place. Ceramic crowns are durable, and create natural, long lasting bonds with dental structure to protect and fortify your damaged tooth. With CEREC, Ashburn residents can have the picture perfect smile they desire in just one visit away.
